A Day in the Life of a 2021 School Psychologist

January 10, 2021August 3, 2022 Post a comment

Hi all!  A few months ago, I share a day in the life of a School Psychologist, when I was in hybrid learning.  We are now back to in person learning (except for those students who have still opted for distance).  So I thought I’d share again what a day in the life looks like!  Even though we are in person, we pretty regularly have students, classes or cohorts in quarantine, so I have to be ready for anything!

7:45 a.m. | I’m still doing bus duty everyday.  I don’t mind it, even in the cold.  We still have delayed started and early arrival, in order to accommodate the greater number of students who get rides to and from school.

8:05 a.m. | On some days I head in early to do a morning meeting for our behavior program.  On this day, I wanted to do a review in the new year, so we did a “size of the problem” activity 1-5.  The students did great with it!

8:30 a.m. | I do a push in to our life skill’s classroom.  They have a morning meeting routine, and today we reviewed whole body listening and personal space.

9:15 a.m. | First virtual meeting of the day.  I miss the in person conversation, but love the ease of staying in my office and signing onto my computer within minutes of the meeting.

10:15 a.m. | I put in some reminders to Google Classroom for a later group, and have a student in.  We work for a few minutes before I get called to help someone else, so I leave that student with an activity for a paraprofessional to finish with him.

11:30 a.m. | Documentation for the morning, prepping for online session, and scoring some protocols.  I also eat lunch in my room everyday now.

12:15 p.m. | Hybrid session.  I have a group with one virtual student and 2 in person, but today, one of the 2 is also virtual, so it takes us another minute, but we get organized.  I always have to have everything posted in Google Classroom ahead of time in order for it to work.  I forget to share my screen only once, which is an accomplishment!

1:00 p.m. | Testing a student.  Doing the C-TOPP, so I feel like the whole sessions is me playing around with masks and face shields!  My CD player of course chooses not to work, but luckily, I’m used to this, so I have backup!

2:00 p.m. | Last student group of the day!

2:30 p.m. | I’m helping cover absent staff, so I bring one of our students down to the bus and wait with him.  I love doing it, because we have the best conversations during this free time!

3:05 p.m. | School’s out, and I head home!  My staff is great about leaving on time, which motivates me.  Now, to start the second half of my day…motherhood!

I hope you guys enjoyed my “day in the life”.  Let me know if thought it was what it would be!
