Material Share Monday: Calming Tools

November 27, 2018November 7, 2019 Post a comment

I think it’s pretty apparent here that I am a big fan of calming tools.  Everyone-adults and kids-need tools that they can use when they are dysregulated.  Today, I’m sharing the resources I use the most!

Calming Tools and Fidgets

5 Finger Breathing(free):  I have shared my love for this tool before.  I love it because you can use it any time, anywhere, and it’s easy to remember.  I tell kids all the time I use it when I hit traffic on the way to work and that’s true!

5 Senses Tool(free):  One of my sweet kiddos told me the other day that he taught this tool to his social skills group outside of school.  My school psych heart was beaming!  I love this one because it’s a great grounding technique to bring the “out of control” emotions back down.5 senses calming tool

100 Free Coping Strategies(free):  I love this as a quick reference list to send home, or for the kiddos who inevitably tell me NOTHING works for them?

Visual calm down cards:  These are such great visuals and again offer a variety of ideas for school and home.

My Calming Tools Box:  This is by far the most popular thing in my office.  Kids come in ALL THE TIME to use it.

Lesson Pix ($30):  I love this website.   I was using Boardmaker for years until a coworker showed me Lesson Pix and it is an AMAZING resource for visuals of calming tools.  It’s not free ($36 a year), but I use it all the time, and especially for these visuals.  It is where I get my visuals for my Zones Toolkit rings.
